Do You Need to Get Rid of Your Roommate?

Finding an ideal roommate is very difficult. Even after you have made your decision, your roommate can change or they simply were not the great roommate that you thought they were in the first place. If your roommate's quirks or downright disrespectful attitude has become too much and you need to get them out of your place, here are some suggestions to make the process less troublesome.

1. Make sure all roommates are in agreement. If you live with more than one other person, it is important to make sure everybody who lives in the property agrees that the offending roommate needs to leave. If the others do not agree, you might want to reconsider your reason for asking the roommate to leave.

2. Set up an appointment to speak with the roommate. Let the roommate know that you would like to speak with them about the living arrangement. If you live with more than more roommate, make sure everybody attends the meeting and give everybody plenty of notice. By giving the roommate notice, they can prepare for the discussion which will cut down on their reactionary response.

3. Be honest but nice. You don't have to tell your roommate everything that they have done to annoy you during the time that you have lived together. Pick out a couple major things and calmly let your roommate know about the problem with kind words. Ideally, you should have already discussed these problems with your roommate in hopes that they would fix the problem before it reaches this point. But if they have not changed their offending habits, it is time to bring an end to your roommate relationship.

4. Be firm. Your roommate may have a negative reaction to what you have to tell them, but don't let that cause you to change your mind. Stand firm in your decision or else you will be stuck with the same problem even longer.
